I was born and raised in Novelda, Alicante, Spain. My academic journey began at the University of Alicante, where I focused on English translation and interpreting during my undergraduate studies.

In 2009, I ventured across the Atlantic to Dallas, Texas, USA, to pursue a Master's in Linguistics and a graduate certificate in TESOL at the University of North Texas. Later, in August 2011, I relocated to Lawrence, Kansas, USA, where I completed a second Master's in Linguistics, a graduate certificate in second language studies, and earned my PhD in Linguistics at the University of Kansas.

Between August 2016 and May 2017, I served as a visiting assistant professor in the Literature and Languages Department at Texas A&M University-Commerce, teaching both graduate and undergraduate classes in Spanish Linguistics.

From August 2017 to August 2021, I held the position of an assistant professor in the Spanish Department at Hankuk University of Foreign Studies in Seoul, South Korea. During my time there, I taught both graduate and undergraduate classes in Spanish Linguistics. I also collaborated with the Linguistics and Cognitive Sciences department at Hankuk University of Foreign Studies - Global Campus in Yongin, South Korea, and with the Centre d'Idiomes Moderns, Universitat Oberta de Catalunya (UOC), where I teach English online.

Currently, I am an assistant professor of Spanish at the University of Utah, Asia Campus, where I am actively involved in establishing the new Spanish department. My responsibilities include teaching various levels of Spanish, developing the Spanish curriculum, and creating opportunities for students to explore the Hispanic world. Additionally, I serve as the Spanish coordinator of the Language Lab at the University of Utah, Asia Campus.

Outside of academia, I enjoy swimming, reading, appreciating nature, indulging in music (I used to play the flute), watching movies, spending time with friends, and exploring the world through travel. I also find fulfillment in sharing my free time with those who need it the most. Recently, I've been delving into analog photography, and you can find some of my work on my Instagram account: @maite.viajera.
